Welcome from ouR Principal
It brings us great pleasure to welcome you to the Anglo-American School of Sofia for this year’s Middle School Football competition. We at AAS welcome these hosting opportunities as it allows us to meet new people while sharing a little bit of what we do here. We open our campus and surrounding areas to you all. This years CEESA MS Girls/Boys football is set against the splendour of the Vitosha mountain and we hope you take many memories from the challenges that each match will bring, as well as enjoying the wonderful views, sunshine and who knows - snow! Coaches, thank you for preparing your players up to this point. The journey each of your footballers has undertaken in readiness for the next couple of days, is only possible due to your guidance, support and leadership. Enjoy their endeavours for you certainly all deserve it. To our wonderful AAS community, thank you for all of the little things you’ve done to allow us to open our doors to our guests. It is truly an entire community effort. A special note of thanks to our host families - 102 students are in your care. We cannot run these exchanges without your generosity and hospitality. You are the face of AAS and we are thankful.
To all players, many congratulations. This competition represents the culmination of many hours and days in preparation as well as maintaining your studies and learning. The hard work has taken place, we ask that you enjoy the next few days. We hope you have an opportunity to meet new people and rekindle friendships made in previous encounters. Compete well, represent with grace, and do your best.
Finally, I want to thank our amazing Activities & Athletics Director, Kylie Olsthoorn, who has worked tirelessly in ensuring that everyone will have a fantastic experience. Our magnificent S.A.L.T. (Student Activities Leadership Team) has coordinated much of the planning and organisation. Your dedication and commitment is both impressive and greatly appreciated! Additional thanks to Mitko Nassapov our Assistant Athletic Director for his efforts behind the scenes and to Aliki Stavrou, our PTO President, whose volunteer spirit helped coordinate the housing for this competition - thanks to you all.
On behalf of AAS, we hope you enjoy the competition, play hard, play fair, good luck and keep on shooting!

Welcome From Our director
Dear CEESA Middle School Girls and Boys Football Teams,
We are delighted to welcome you to AAS Sofia and Bulgaria. This year, AAS is privileged to host many student and staff CEESA events involving the arts, academics, service, professional development, and athletics. Our second event of the 2019-2020 school year is the Middle School Girls and Boys Football. Of course, this event cannot happen if you are not willing to put in substantial effort in training, travel, and time away from home/school to come to AAS. Thank you!
Football, The Beautiful Game, is by far the most popular sport in the world. It is an exceptional sport. It combines athletic skill, great fitness, mental discipline, and sportsmanship. It is also the ultimate team sport. It is our hope that you feel good about your how you and your team plays.
It is also our hope that you have a great experience in Sofia and return to your homes with splendid memories of the tournament, connecting with new (and old) friends, and AAS. To this end, we strive to be the best hosts we can be. Our students, staff, and parents will extend every effort to make you feel welcomed and supported. Thank you to our Athletics and Activities team, Ms. Kylie Olsthoorn and Mr. Dimitar Nassapov (aka Mitko). Thanks also to Mr. Zhivko Vichkov and our Transportation Team, our PTO volunteers, and our Student Activities Leadership Team (SALT) for working together to make the tournament a success. A special thank you as well to our host families for welcoming you into their homes.
We expect that you will not only play well, but remember that you represent your team, your school, and your family. The Core Values at AAS are Commitment, Respect, and Excellence. We expect that we will all demonstrate the AAS Core Values at all times:
Commitment by giving your full effort at all times
Respect by following the rules, but more importantly by taking time to get to know other people and treating everyone with kindness
Excellence by working to do your best, especially if things do not seem to be going your way
On behalf of the entire community, I again welcome you to AAS. I thank you for making the trip to Sofia. I wish you the very best for the CEESA Middle School Girls & Boys Football Tournament!
Sincerely, Dr. Tim Fries Director, Anglo-American School of Sofia
